Born in the Crimea, Ilona Timchenko graduated Moscow Conservatory (prof. E.Richter) as well as Prince Claus Conservatoire (prof. A.Gold) and Koninklijk Conservatorium in the Hague (prof. Rian de Waal). Later she improved her skills with Lazar Berman in Florence and Michel Beroff in Paris..

Ilona's playing blends Russian tradition with European style, always powerful and endlessly poetic.

Blessed with phenomenal technique and powerful musical and expressive skills, in the beginning of her career she brought a packed audience at England's Buxton Festival to their feet and soon after she made her debut at Unione Musicale, one of the most prestigious festivals in Europe. She performed in recitals and with orchestras at Wigmore Hall, Philips Hall in Holland, the Vienna Musikverein, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Madrid's Monumental Theatre, Oriental Arts Centre in Shanghai, among many others.

Ilona premièred many works by contemporary composers, some of which were dedicated to her. Recordings of many of these works are stored in the archives of the Moscow State Conservatory.

Timchenko became the first who has made a public performance of complete 24 Preludes and Fugues of Shostakovich in Italy. In 2010 Ilona signed a contract to record the complete piano music of one of the leading Spanish composers of our days - Anton Garcia Abríl. The first set of two CD's has been released in September of 2012 and ranked as "exelent” in the magazine "Ritmo”.

Her CD with works by R.Shumann and J.Brahms released by label Landor Records was selected for one of the inaugural 'Outstanding' accolades in International Record Review magazine and received rave reviews in Gramophone Magazine. In 2010, Ilona recorded a double CD with piano music by A. García Abril; this recording was ranked as "excelent” in the magazine "Ritmo” in Spain. Since 2016, Ilona is a member of the Metamorphoses trio, the CD released with this ensemble in 2018 was highly praised by critics around the world..

She won numerous competitions and prizes including Enesco Competition in Bucharest, Beethoven Competition in Vienna, the Liszt Competition in Utrecht and the Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens. In total Ilona has won the highest prizes at more than 30 prizes International Competitions.

Ilona is invited yearly as professor at the annual Summer Academy in the Netherlands – Peter de Grote Festival. She is founder and Artistic Director of International Festival "Peregrinos Musicales”, which takes place in Santiago de Compostela in collaboration with other festivals and organizations, such as The Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation, Festival "Moscow meets friends”, Royal Philharmonia of Galicia, The Mstislav Rostropovich International Charity Foundation among others.
